Recognition:

The YouthWOKE founders were invited to present at Harvard’s Sponsr.Us peer social entrepreneurship program. The students shared their inspiration and focus stating, “Youth, have the capability to make a difference, and the misconception that youth are too irrelevant in society to make a difference simply is not true. We hope to focus on that idea, because that is what led us to push forward during times where we were doubting our own capabilities, and in addition to showcasing our own recent accomplishments, we hope to convey that no one is too young to make a true difference.” Read more about the program here and more about their presentation in an interview here.

“It has been an inspiring experience to sit with groups of students and hear their ideas, pitches, and dreams about making events that will positively influence their peers. Through Community Call, students are able to find their voice, follow their passions, and discover the success that comes from seeing a project through to the end, a skill that will benefit them significantly in their future educational and professional endeavors.” – Shari Davis – Director, Boston Mayor’s Youth Engagement & Employment Office

“The skills and values our students acquired during their work with Community Call will last a lifetime. I am extremely thankful for all that they have done for our kids, and I’m hopeful that more high school students in Boston will be able to receive this same opportunity for years to come.” – Jonathan Clark – Director of Alumni Programming/College Counselor Boston Collegiate Charter School

“Students learned a great deal about professionalism, time managment, and project management…The students played a part in each step of the event planning process, from generating the idea, to securing the venue, to reaching out to potential presenters, to staffing the event. Our students were very pleased with their accomplishments, as they watched teens from throughout the city benefit from the information provided to them that night. Participation in the event planning course helped our students develop valuable skills, leadership capacity, and greater confidence.” – Danielle E. Pape – Dean of Educational Partnerships, Boston Preparatory Charter School

“Many students who return are looking for and need academic programs in most cases with built-in supports and enrichments. The uniqueness of Community Call’s project-based program interests our students and provides them with real life skill preparation. Students are given the opportunity to collaborate with their peers, identify a social need, develop a plan, and produce an event that benefits the broader community.” – Gail Forbes-Harris – Director, Boston Public Schools Re-Engagement Center

“I am impressed with Community Call’s’ consistency and reliability and with how effectively they engage our students. They meet weekly at our school and also makes time available for students to meet at their office. Students learn how to organize, promote, and implement an event. They become more socially aware, and they develop excellent collaboration skills. ” – Peggy Kemp – Headmaster, Fenway High School
